Artisanal Wines Now Available in Westford

Aaronap Cellars, Massachusetts’ newest winery, announces the inaugural release of its line of wines.

Located in Westford, Aaronap Cellars is a micro-winery that focuses on producing small volume, innovative, and artisanal wines using grapes from the best vineyards in New England and beyond. The inaugural current release features five wines, including a chardonnay and pinot noir róse made from grapes grown in Massachusetts, Carm-ah, a blend of carmenere and syrah; PS Project, a blend of petite sirah and cabernet sauvignon, two red blends, and as well as Forest Gold, a unique sweet dessert wine called Forest Gold that is made from maple syrup harvested in the Berkshire Mountains.

Owner and winemaker Noel Powell stated that Aaronap Cellars is the culmination of his love for wine and winemaking. A drug discovery chemist in the pharmaceutical industry by day, Noel honed his winemaking talents during almost a decade of award-winning home winemaking and enology studies at the University of California-Davis.

In 2011, Noel decided to embark on a new career course took the plunge into commercial winemaking and began the three-year journey to establish Aaronap Cellars as a licensed farm winery in Massachusetts.

“My winemaking is a combination of my passions interests in art, history, and science,” he said. “Making good wine starts with sourcing the best grapes possible, but also requires the winemaker to make appropriate decisions in the winery to help shape the wine into its highest potential. Each of my wines is a reflection of both the grapes and my vision.”

Even the winery name is a reflection of the winemaker, being derived from a combination of his middle name and initials.

Each Aaronap Cellars’ wine is handcrafted on a small scale, often less than 80 gallons, which allows for individualized attention in making unique wines not found elsewhere in Massachusetts.

Due to the small production volume, the winery does not have a public tasting room. Aaronap Cellars wines are available by direct order through the winery’s website (aaronapcellars.com) or through private tasting appointments and events. In addition, Noel states that he will be a vendor at several winery festivals and the Westford Farmers’ Market this summer. The winery will expand into retail liquor shops and restaurants towards the end of the summer as wine availability permits.

Aaronap Cellars invites you to sample these artisanal wines for yourself and discover the unique “terroir of Westford.”
