Nashoba Tech Named a Level 1 School for Second Straight Year
WESTFORD — Nashoba Valley Technical High School received more good news when MCAS scores were released this fall: For the second year in a row, the school has been identified as a Level 1 school by the Massachusetts Department of Education, based on students’ performance on the MCAS test.
Under the Department of Education’s new accountability system, school districts are divided into five levels based on MCAS performance, with Level 1 schools being the highest-ranking schools and Level 5 being the lowest-ranking.
Based on its students’ performance on the MCAS test administered last spring, Nashoba Tech has again been labeled a Level 1 district, rising 4 points from last year.
In fact, also for the second year in a row, none of the other school systems that make up Nashoba Tech’s district — Ayer, Chelmsford, Groton, Littleton, Pepperell, Shirley, Townsend and Westford — has been labeled a Level 1 district.
Other observations from Nashoba Tech’s latest MCAS scores include:
• 30 of the 31 students enrolled in the honors Algebra II class scored at the Advanced level.
• 41 students — or 25 percent of the Class of 2014, the maximum allowed — earned the Adams Scholarship.
• The school scored above the state average for students scoring at the Proficient level or higher in English and Math.
• 94 percent of students met the minimum required score for graduation on the first attempt, exceeding the state average of 88 percent.
• All students in the Classes of 2014 and 2015 have earned their competency determination for English.
• All students in the Class of 2014 have earned their competency determination for Science.
