I am a Yoga instructor and owner of Tranquility Yoga. I live in Westford with my husband, David Penfield and we have lived here for 21 years. We have 2 boys, Andy, a Freshman at Keene State College, and Scott, a Junior at Westford Academy. We also have 2 Golden Retrievers, Clyde (age 12) and Comet (age 4).
I grew up in Newton and Weston Massachusetts, and then attended Colorado College. After living in Colorado for a while, I returned to Boston, and attended graduate school at Boston University. I received a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Boston University in 1986. Following that, I worked at the Shriner's Burn Institute in Boston for several years, then for several small biotechnology start-up companies for several years. After Andy was born in 1993, I taught biochemistry at UMass Lowell, and decided after Scott was born that I wanted more time home with my children.
I got into Yoga when I was about 30 years old, and was sick with Mononucleosis. When I recovered from that, I picked up a book called "Introduction to Yoga" by Richard Hittlemen, and have been practicing Yoga every since. I have done numerous Yoga Teacher trainings over the years, mostly with Master Yoga Foundation, which is the training organization for Svaroopa Yoga. I have over 1000 hours of training with Master Yoga, and am currently enrolled in their advanced Teacher Training Program.
