The boys and girls' teams finished fourth and sixth respectively overall.
Westford Academy had a disappointing overall team performance at the 2013 Dual County League Track and Field Championships last week at Regis College in Weston. Barnard-Pratt finished first in the boys' high jump with a mark of six feet, while Craig finished with a 10 foot, six inch total in the girls' pole vault, a foot more than second place Kyra Visnick of Newton South. The Grey Ghosts also had five second place finishers. Overall, the boys finished sixth with 69 points, behind Waltham (77.50), Concord-Carlisle (88), Newton South (101) and Acton-Boxborough (153). Katie Ernst was just a hundred yards away from the finish line when last Monday's blast in Boston ended her first experience in the Boston Marathon, but she was able to "finish" the race back here in Westford thanks to a few of her friends.
Finishing a marathon is a special accomplishment regardless of the circumstances, but Westford Academy student Katie Ernst got a particularly special end after the harrowing experiences she faced during first Boston Marathon last week. Ernst was only 100 yards away from the finish line when the first blast went off last Monday, but although she wasn’t able to get across the line on Boylston Street, her friends made a finish line for her to cross on Westford Common the next day. Westford Academy led 3-2 at halftime but cruised past the Lady Lions in the second half and grabbed a 14-6 win.
The Westford Academy girls lacrosse team was locked in a one-goal game when halftime arrived versus Chelmsford on Tuesday afternoon. But thanks to a second half outburst, it was smooth sailing for the Grey Ghosts the rest of the way. After leading, 3-2, at the intermission, Westford opened the floodgates with its offensive attack. The Lions chipped away and made the score 8-6 midway through the second half, but the Grey Ghosts then scored six consecutive goals to seal a 14-6 win.
