The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association released its baseball and softball playoff pairings on Tuesday, and the Grey Ghosts are involved in both. In North Division 1 baseball, Westford Academy finished off a 13-7 regular season. As a result, the locals snagged the No. 11 seed and will take on No. 6 Everett on Saturday at 4 p.m. in a first round match up scheduled for Malden's Pire Banks field. Split Playoff Result for Ghosts' Baseball and Softball

The Westford Academy baseball team started their postseason on the right foot, but the softball team couldn't pull out a win against Lowell.

Two Westford Academy teams took to the diamond on Thursday, but only one was able to advance as the baseball team defeated Salem by a score of 12-1; while the softball team lost to Lowell, 5-3. In Salem, the Ghosts got off to a quick lead, getting six runs in the first, and held the Witches' bats at bay thanks to three scoreless innings of relief from Ryan Pocock, and a strong start from Will Alden, who is now 6-0 on the season. The pair combined to give up only one walk and scatted seven hits while striking out nine. Alden gave up the only Salem run in the fourth, but he was able to make up for it with a double later that inning, accompanied by multi-hit days from Riley Cox and John Troy, and Mike Bibinski in what was a 17 hit day for …

Grey Ghosts Can't Pull Out Comeback Against Lexington

Westford Academy falls in softball 4-3 in MIAA Division 1 North Sectional Preliminary Round action on Thursday.

A day after fierce winds battered Massachusetts, at many points it appeared that the MIAA Division 1 North Sectional softball brackets might receive a strong gust of something slightly unexpected in Lexington on Thursday. However, the only bluster once all was said and done came from the remnants of the prior day’s storm as the 19th seeded Grey Ghosts of Westford Academy lost to the 14th seeded Lexington Minutemen , 4-3. For the first half of the contest, it appeared that the Ghosts were in control and primed for the upset. Junior Alleana Brody retired seven of the first eight batters she faced, and the Academy was getting some key help at the plate as well. A double from Brody in the second drove in Shannon Donahue to put the Ghosts on …

The Westford Academy softball team lost a heartbreaker to Lincoln-Sudbury Monday. The visiting Grey Ghosts lost 7-6 in the seventh inning off a two-out single. WA had been up 6-1 in the fifth inning. “In the huddle we looked at what mistakes we made (today) and how to improve on that as a team,” said Westford Manager Pete Burr. “It was a good learning game for us and we will bounce back.” The Warriors finished their comeback with an infield walk-off single by Michelle Richard to bring teammate Mandy Sifferlan home from second base. The Grey Ghosts originally looked to be in control after jumping ahead 6-1 off five runs and six hits in the fifth inning.
