VIDEO/IMAGE GALLERY: Latin Schools Westford Baseball

The Westford Academy baseball team lost 6-5 Wednesday to Boston Latin.

The Westford Academy baseball team dropped its second straight one-run game with a 6-5 loss to Boston Latin Wednesday. Boston Latin got on the in the second inning, scoring an unearned run off Westford hurler Mark Cornelius. Latin held on for the win. WA dropped to 3-6 on the season, with a 1-2 record in Dual County League Large place. The Grey Ghosts get back in action on Friday when they travel to Arlington to face the Spy Ponders. First pitch is scheduled for 3:45 p.m.

5 WA Teams to Watch this Spring

WA athletics teams look forward to another successful spring.

Spring has sprung for Westford Academy athletic teams. The Grey Ghosts prepare for action with some scrimmages this week and regular season action beginning Friday (weather permitting -- there's supposed to be a snowstorm) and next Monday. Westford Patch takes a look at some of the sports and teams that should make an impact this season. 1.) Girls Tennis - The Westford Academy Grey Ghosts won the 2010 MIAA Division 1 State Championship. Head Coach Tracy Capone and the Grey Ghosts had a magical season that concluded with a 4-1 victory over Longmeadow for the state championship. Sports Weekly: Cornelius Considered for All-State, WA Alumni Shine

WA basketball finishes season ranked.

The WA boys basketball finished the season ranked #19 in the final ESPNBoston Top 25 poll. WA finished the season with a record of 18-4. Senior captain and co-MVP Mark Cornelius is a candidate for the ESPN Boston All-State basketball team. He wasnamed Dual County League co-MVP this season. WA senior swimming state champion Matt Tynan is considering many schools including Maryland, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and Kenyon. The senior has a few more trips lined up before making his decision. Westford native TJ Jann is a freshman pitcher on Penn State's baseball team. VIDEO: 5 Moments to Remember During the Westford Academy Winter Sports Season

From a buzzer beater to state titles.

Westford Academy had many exciting games this winter sports season, which recently concluded. Swimmers shattered school records and won state titles. Both girls and boys basketball teams and the girls hockey qualified for postseason tournament. Wrestling, gymnastics, track, boys hockey and skiing teams also shared success this season. 1.) Mount Wins it for the Grey Ghosts Sophomore Justin Mount hit the game-winning shot with 7.2 seconds left as the Westford Academy Grey Ghosts won the 2010 Lowell Holiday Basketball Tournament 63-62 over Acton-Boxborough. IMAGE GALLERY: Westford Boys Basketball Back on Winning Track

On Senior Night, Westford defeated Waltham 76-45 Tuesday to snap a two-game losing streak.

After suffering consecutive losses to Acton-Boxborough and Lincoln-Sudbury, the Westford Academy boys basketball team got back on the winning track Tuesday with a 76-45 romp over Waltham. Westford improved to 16-3 on the season. Dual County League Co-MVP Mark Cornelius led the team with 16 points. The game marked senior night. Senior Ryan Imbriaco also chipped in with 12 points in his final home regular season league game. It was also announced that junior captain Matt Ellis and junior Ryan Jann were named Dual County League All-Stars for the 2011 season. The WA boys have one game remaining at  Dracut High School on Thursday at 7 p.m. before they start tournament play.

Captain Cornelius

Mark Cornelius of the Westford Academy boys basketball went for 20+ points twice as the Grey Ghosts secured a postseason tournament berth.

Westford Academy senior forward and scoring machine Mark Cornelius kept the Grey Ghosts' rollin' this week. Coming off a monster game against Newton South where he had 26 points and 17 rebounds, the 6-foot, 3-inch Cornelius dropped 21 points in a 67-62 win this week again Dual County League-Small leader Wayland. Cornelius, a team captain, is currently second in the DCL in scoring at 19.8 ppg. Earlier in the season he was named MVP of the Lowell Holiday Tournament. The Grey Ghosts (11-1) are currently ranked eighth in the new ESPN Boston Massachusetts Top 25 high school boys basketball rankings.
