Kimball Farms Outlines Proposed Utility Improvements

The popular ice cream and family destination highlighted plans for utility improvements in front of the local conservation board last week.

The head engineer of Kimball Farm outlined a proposal for underground utility improvements in front of the Westford Conservation Committee this past Wednesday night. Mark Donohoe, who is head of surveying and engineering of Kimball Farms, briefly spoke in front of the Committee about the Farm’s plan to relocate overhead wires to conduits. He also briefly outlined plans to install a new transformer. “We (at Kimball Farm) are going forward with a habitat study,” Donohoe told the Conservation Committee. “This is a needed upgrade, but we might want to hear from the (Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program) first.” The popular ice cream and family-entertainment location, which is located at 400 Littleton Road, owns two-hundred and ten …

Residents, Town Officials Gather to Brainstorm at Kimball Farm

Despite near triple digit temperatures, Westford town officials and local residents came together to brainstorm on town policy at the Second Annual Westford Strategic Planning Retreat.

In what could be called Westford’s informal “Summer Town Meeting”, nearly 100 town staff members, local government officials and Westford residents gathered at Kimball Farm for the Second Annual Westford Strategic Planning Retreat. Built as an informal brainstorming session for those interested in shaping town policy, the event brought disparate portions of Westford government together to share ideas and information and to help increase awareness and think of solutions for issues that impact the town. The event began with a questionnaire session dominated by one of the primary issues facing Westford: the current expected $2.4 million shortfall for Fiscal Year 2014. Town Manager Jodi Ross began by referencing a local voices column recently …

"We have a zillion and one overpaid un-mandated curriculum coordinators /// Can't we get rid of a few of them instead?" I agree 100% Constantly buying new curriculum is a waste too. On many occasionsI've seen the W teachers doing that job anyway. Many other schools save huge money by paying teachers a stipend to do it. You're not paying the full time salary of another employee, the payroll taxes…   more ›

Kid-Friendly Fun: Kimball Farm

Kimball Farm is a kid-friendly place that is fun for all ages.

If there's any one place where people think of fun in Westford, Kimball Farm is it. It has bumper boats, mini-golf, a driving range, pitch and putt, animal adventures, picnic tables, grills, batting cages, an arcade, group events, and of course ice cream.  On a sunny July day, one will find the grounds buzzing with kids, teens, parents and grandparents. Recently, the bumper boats have been the busiest attraction, due in large part to sweltering temperatures.  However, the Animal Adventures shows have also been popular as of late, with shows starting every hour and a half in the daytime starring exotic animals such as snakes, alligators, owls, lizards. Although Kimball Farm has grown over the years and offers different activities and foods…

Cooking Local With Sally

Slow Cooker Pulled Chicken, with Help From Kimball Farm

Kimball Farm is good for more than ice cream!

Have you heard that the Kimball Farm ice cream stand is now open for the season? Yay! I know I don’t need to tell any of you about Kimball’s—before we moved here, Kimball Farm was the only reason we even knew where Westford was! But, did you know that if you go into their store, in addition to a little café that sells delicious sandwiches and baked goods, there’s also a variety of food products, like sauces and jams? Last time I was there, I decided to pick up a jar of Kimball Farm Smokey Apple BBQ Sauce to make one of my favorite slow cooker meals: pulled chicken. This is a good one for this week, as the weather will be cold and rainy. Ingredients: Directions:

Ice Cream Before it Snows: Kimball Farm Stand Opens Today

The ice cream parlor has operated since 1939.

It's a sure sign of spring -- even if a snowstorm is coming tomorrow. Kimball Farm, a Westford institution, opened up its walk-up window for ice cream today. Kimball Farm has been serving ice cream since 1939. Last year, it added an arcade and batting cages. There's also mini-golf, bumper boats, a driving range, and nine-hole pitch and putt. Get the ice cream while it's still relatively warm out, as a few inches of snow are predicted for tomorrow.
