There may be some scattered snow banks still refusing to melt, but spring is officially here. And with that, spring sports season is in full swing with a busy slate of games on the docket this week. Several games take place in upcoming days for Westford Academy teams as the regular season winds down.
The finish line is within sight for Westford Academy winter teams. Next stop - the playoffs. The final week of the regular season begins on Monday, when trio of games are on the docket. First at 3 p.m., the girls hockey team hopes to improve its playoff positioning with a road game against Boston Latin School. At 6 p.m., the boys hockey team hosts Masconomet while the third game of the night features the boys basketball team traveling to North Andover at 7 p.m. Tuesday's only game on the schedule is the girls hockey team, which travels to face Austin Prep at 10:45 a.m. On Wednesday, the it's the boys team that skates on the road. Two weeks remain in the regular season with several teams hoping to improve their playoff positioning.
It's been a strong regular season for Westford Academy teams, and with just two weeks to go the Grey Ghosts are hoping to continue that trend as the playoffs approach. Both basketball teams hit the hardwood on Monday in games that were originally scheduled for Friday before the weekend's blizzard had other ideas. The girls team travels to Lincoln-Sudbury at 6:30 p.m. while the boys team takes on the same foe at 7:30 p.m. in a home tilt. Also in action at 5 p.m. is the gymnastics team, taking part in the Dual County League championship. On Tuesday, the ski teams kick off action with a slalom race at 3:30 p.m. at Nashoba Valley.
