  March 22, 6:51 p.m. - An individual living on Cold Spring Road called police from her car after spotting a bear in her backyard. She was in her driveway at the time. By the time police reached her house, she reported the bear was heading toward Pierce Avenue. March 19, 2:45 p.m. - Police arrived to Pine Street to meet someone that said a Jeep had been involved in a hit-and-run on North Main Street on her vehicle earlier that day. The woman who called the officer described the Jeep driver as a young white man, and got down his license plate. After a search of the license plate number, it was discovered the driver and another individual in the vehicle lived on Pine Street, with the driver admitting he hit the woman's vehicle, also saying …

Man With Suspended License Caught in Groton Road Crash

March 21, 6:06 a.m. - An officer was at United U when they learned that there was a serious motor vehicle accident at the corner of Groton and Forrest roads. Two vehicles, a red Prius and a black Cadillac, required towing assistance from the crash. A woman driving the Prius was still inside the car when the officer arrived, indicating that she was okay, but her ribs and side hurt. Paramedics offered her on-scene medical assistance. The man driving the Cadillac said his leg hurt, and indicated that he was on his way to work. He also received medical assistance, but after further investigation, it was discovered that the man's license was suspended. Student Allegedly Brags About Chance to Use Gun, Crossbow

  Feb. 15, 10:10 a.m. - Police intervened with a teacher said that a student was "bragging" about being able to use a gun and crossbow the following week while his parents were away. After an investigation of the student's house, the officer talked with the student and school officials about the claims, which he said he did not recall. The officer asked the student about the crossbow, which the student said was given as a Christmas present, but he was not authorized to use without direct parental supervision while either in the woods or at a shooting range. At the end of the discussion, the officer told the student that any potential "bragging" inside school was inappropriate, citing the concerns from earlier. The student apologized for …

The First Amendment isn't an absolute right, as you'll discover when you decide to exercise that right by yelling "FIRE!" in a crowded theater...or if you want to look at naked pics of little kids. Several recent mass killers made ideation statements before their horrible actions. The police were being wisely proactive in this case.   more ›
