Westford Moving Toward Affordable Housing Goal

Northern Middlesex Council of Governments executive director Beverly Woods told the Selectmen on Tuesday night that Westford

Westford is moving toward growing its affordable housing stock, although it still may have a way to go if a report given to the Selectmen on Tuesday night is any indication. The update, given by Northern Middlesex Council of Governments executive director Beverly Woods, indicated that the town may in fact soon be able to meet 40B mandates requiring towns to reach a level of affordable housing "consistent with local needs," which is currently set at 10 percent of all housing in a particular town. In towns that don't meet the 10 percent mandate, non-profit developers applying to build low-income housing can appeal local zoning and planning decisions to the state.
