The MIAA released its playoff pairings on Friday and Westford Academy will enter the tournament as the No. 10 seed.
The Lady Grey Ghosts won't be the only Westford Academy lacrosse team in the postseason. In addition to the top-seeded girls lacrosse team, the boys lacrosse team learned on Friday their postseason fate as the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association released its brackets. Thanks to a regular season that featured a 12-8 record, the Grey Ghosts earned the No. 10 seed. As a result, Westford Academy will host Medford on Wednesday at 5 p.m. With a victory, the locals would advance to the first round to face Xaverian, the No. 7 seed in the tournament that earned a preliminary round bye. The date and time of that game has yet to be determined.

Westford Academy fell to Central Catholic on Saturday inside Lowell's Tsongas Center after scoring just two points in the final 4:55.
The Westford Academy girls basketball season came to end one game short of an appearance on the TD Garden parquet. But for the Lady Grey Ghosts, it was still a year to remember. Head coach Russ Coward’s charges grabbed a late lead against Central Catholic, but went cold the rest of the way and scored just two points in the final 4:55 of play. As a result, Westford was eliminated with a 60-51 loss on Saturday in the North Division 1 final. “We were hoping that in the big gym (of Lowell’s Tsongas Center) they wouldn’t shoot as well,” said Coward. “But they played great, and a team like that we just tried to play them tough. I don’t think people realize how quick they are. They’re all very quick, and they attack the hoop really well.” Despite…

Though the Grey Ghosts erased a 2-0 third period deficit, Arlington Catholic came back to win in overtime and eliminate the locals.
It was a season to remember for the Westford Academy girls hockey team. But it was an ending the Grey Ghosts will likely hope to forget. Westford wiped out a 2-0 third period lead to force overtime, but defending champion Arlington Catholic netted the game-winner with 9:03 to play in overtime to win the Division 1 semifinal contest, 3-2, at Chelmsford Forum. Bretta Beer fired home the team's first goal of the game just 49 seconds into the third period, pulling the Grey Ghosts within a single tally. The Cougars had the chance to ice the game with 4:29 left, but goalie Kerry Pouliot stoned a penalty shot chance to give her team life. With 3:00 to go in the game, Westford was forced to skate shorthanded after being whistled for a penalty. But…

Though the Lady Grey Ghosts took a three-point lead in the fourth quarter, Central Catholic ran away with a 60-51 win in the North Division 1 final on Saturday in Lowell.
Westford Academy grabbed a late lead but went cold down the stretch as Central Catholic pulled out a 60-51 win in the North Division 1 girls basketball final at the Tsongas Center in Lowell. After the Lady Grey Ghosts took a three-point edge early in the fourth quarter, Central Catholic took over. Westford scored just two points in the final 4:55 of the contest. The Grey Ghosts fought off a late Billerica charge to earn a 53-49 semifinal victory.
The Westford Academy girls basketball team held on. Now they're moving on. After leading early, the Grey Ghosts fought off a Billerica charge in the North Division 1 semifinal on Thursday night. Thanks to a 53-49 win, Westford Academy will play on Saturday in the bracket final. “In the first game against Billerica we missed some big free throws so it is kind of nice to come full circle, hit some key free throws and win it,” Westford Academy head coach Russ Coward told ESPNBoston.com following the victory. Junior forward Sam Hyslip led the charge for the Lady Grey Ghosts. She poured home 20 points and snagged 18 rebounds in the victory. Billerica handed Westford Academy one of its four losses during the regular season, a 57-53 decision on …

Westford Academy hosts Lexington at 4 p.m. on Sunday in the North Division 1 quarterfinal round.
The Westford Academy girls basketball team enjoyed its run to the Division 1 quarterfinal round last year. This year, they’re hoping to go at least another game farther. After a first round bye, the Lady Grey Ghosts thumped Revere, 70-35, in the opening round of the tournament. As a result, No. 3 Westford hosts No. 6 Lexington at 4 p.m. on Sunday in the same round it was eliminated in last season. “We are looking to hopefully get past this round this time around,” said head coach Russell Coward. “We feel like we have a good shot to make it to the neutral courts. Last year’s playoff loss is pretty motivating for them.” If the Grey Ghosts can manage another victory, they will advance to play in the semifinal round. A date and time have not …

The MIAA unveiled its postseason pairings over the weekend, including those for both Westford Academy basketball teams and the girls hockey team.
The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association revealed its playoff brackets over the weekend, and this year's postseason will include a trio of Westford Academy teams, all of which are ranked third in their respective brackets. Boys Basketball Hoping to Continue Recent Momentum Westford Academy toppled North Andover in a recent regular season game, and that's a big reason their 16-4 record was good enough for the No. 3 seed. The Grey Ghosts host No. 14 Haverhill in the opening round of the tournament on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. With a victory, the team would advance to take on either Lynn English or Somerville. Girls Basketball Hopes to Fight Off Upstart Foe In its opening round tilt, the Lady Grey Ghosts welcome No. 14 Revere to …
