Westford Group Honored at Beacon Hill Second Amendment Rally

Westford Pro2a, a group that worked against Article 30 here in Westford and is now advocating for gun owner rights across the state, was honored in Boston yesterday.

Article 30 ultimately did not make it to the floor of Town Meeting, and the movement that helped take it off the warrant received recognition on Beacon Hill. On Wednesday at noon, the Gun Owners Action League, also known as GOAL, honored members of Westford Pro2A, a locally based Second Amendment rights group that advocated against Article 30. The event was part of a rally that took place on Boston Common advocating for Second Amendment rights overall, and since the article was taken off the warrant, the group has reached out to local legislators and spread their message to other nearby communities. However, Pro2A member Cori Ryan says the real goals of the movement are yet to be determined. “We’ve become active at the state level …

The sale of lawfully owned property from one private individual to another should not involve the government. The gun registration database that the Commonwealth maintains violates the Constitution. It has not yet been challenged in Federal court but if we're lucky with all of the gun grabbers waving the bloody shirt these days we might actually be rid of it someday. The Supreme Court will be …   more ›

Will There Be Another Chapter to the Article 30 Debate?

While the topic was taken off the agenda for Town Meeting, the issue still remains a topic of discussion elsewhere in the Commonwealth. Will the issue return to Westford?

The 2013 Annual Town Meeting has come and passed here in Westford without any mention of the once proposed warrant article to ban certain types of firearms that was dismissed in late February. However, elsewhere in the state the debate over gun control and the Second Amendment continues. Earlier this month, WBUR reported that the number of students in firearms training courses is rising, and recently the Newburyport Daily News reported that a Salisbury man and a Natick man have filed a lawsuit against the town of Natick over a state law prohibiting anyone with a marijuana conviction from obtaining a firearm permit, with the men citing the law violates their Second Amendment rights. And last week, State Representative David Linsky (D-…

This is what I want to see in Westford instead of attacking people and their rights: 1) make sure we have provided everything we can to allow our excellent town police and EMTs to get to a school or public building in less than 5 minutes. If they can't do this already, we should be looking at systems and resources that would allow them to do so. 3) teachers have training for all types of events, …   more ›

Westford Had Over 1,000 Active Gun Permits Last Year

The Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety reports that Westford had an increase of 68 Class A licenses from 2011 to 2012.

Gun control remains as a topic on the national stage, with yesterday alone providing the unveiling a $500 million dollar gun violence package from President Obama and a new statement from the NRA saying that attacking firearms and ignoring children is "not a solution to the crisis we face as a nation." Here in Westford, the topic remains in the news as well, most recently during last week's Board of Selectmen's meeting during a discussion over a proposed town level assault weapons ban that led Selectman Bob Jefferies adding that the bylaw should be joined by an additional bylaw requiring that gun owners join a militia. Today, we want to hear your thoughts on the issue here in Westford. Patch has obtained the following statistics from the…
