Gov. Patrick Announces Massachusetts Now Has 1.25 Million Acres of Open Space

Governor Deval Patrick announced that the state has protected an additional 100,000 acres of open space over the past five years, a trend mirrored in Westford over the past decade.

  Governor Deval Patrick announced late last month that Massachusetts now has 1.25 million acres of protected open space and 100,000 new acres protected over the past five years, echoing a trend found in Westford as well. The announcement was made at Halfway Pond in Plymouth, where the Department of Fish and Game and its Division of Fisheries and Wildlife had just acquired 94 acres of wildlife habitat for $2.5 million and recieved a gift conservation restriction of another 28.4 acres, permanently protecting the entire eastern section of the pond. “(This) announcement marks an outstanding achievement in conservation which benefits our residents and is vital to the success and health of our communities,” said Massachusetts State Senate …

Transportation Bill Earmarks Funds For Bruce Freeman Rail Trail

The $1.5 billion bill helps build infrastructure that strengthens the state’s economy over the long term, governor says.

  Gov. Deval Patrick called a $1.5 billion transportation bond bill that includes funding for the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail "what the state needs to strengthen its economy and "quality of life for the long term.” Patrick signed the bill on Aug. 9. “Our transportation infrastructure had suffered from years of neglect, so this administration started rebuilding roads, rails and bridges in every corner of our state and creating thousands of jobs," Patrick said after he enacted the bill, which enjoyed the strong support of the Legislature, passing the House by a vote of 150-2 on July 31, the last day of the session. Four Westford Jobs Coming From State Grants, Says Patrick Administration

The Patrick-Murray Administration recently announced $2,100,224 in Workforce Training Fund grants, including $61,200 for Westford's MCS Laser Services.

  Last week the Patrick-Murray Administration announced just over $2 million in new Workforce Training Fund grants for 28 Massachusetts companies, including Westford-based MCS Laser Services. Statewide, the grants are projected to create over 200 new jobs and train nearly 3,000 workers. "We are focused on addressing the skills gap issue in the Commonwealth so that workers can compete in today’s ever-changing jobs market,” said Governor Deval Patrick. "The Workforce Training Fund focuses on the needs of both our businesses and workers, as Massachusetts continues to lead the nation in economic recovery.” At MCS Laser Services, the grant money will allow the company to train a projected 32 employees, with another four jobs estimated to be …
