Bringing a Love of Wine to Cornerstone Square

Mike Ziethlow of Vintner's Circle hopes to spread his passion to winemaking to Westford, and believes that Cornerstone Square is the perfect place to do it.

About a year ago, Mike Ziethlow started making wine in his basement. Little did he know that his hobby would turn into a new business here in Westford. Open this month at Cornerstone Square, Ziethlow has turned his passion into a new franchise for Vintner’s Circle, the first of his three planned Massachusetts locations for the do-it-yourself wine making shop. “My wife and I started enjoying making wine, but it became a big mess,” he said. “Still, eventually we both said to each other ‘wouldn’t it be nice if there was a place for folks like us to go without making this big mess in our basement?” Despite those big messes and the time and care needed to make a fine wine, Ziethlow believes that the practice of wine making can become a new …

Cornerstone Square Provides As Unintentional Backdrop in The Race for Westford's Congressional Seat

The development on Boston Road acts as a place for Republican signs as well as a focal point for certain ideas on what's needed for economic recovery.

Anyone familiar with the area just off Exit 32 has noticed the vast changes over the past months as the new Cornerstone Square development nears completion after years of planning and construction. But despite the new buildings, the development has remained as a forgotten backdrop for the subject of local business during this election year. While some of the political signs adorning the edge of the development on Boston Road have made way for new grass and New England-style stone walls, motorists can still see the various placards for Republicans like Congressional challenger Jon Golnik placed by Cornerstone developer Robert Walker. For years, the future of the project remained uncertain, and Walker sees candidates like Golnik as a cure …

Behind The Scenes Tour at Cornerstone

Patch was invited to take a look around on site last week, here's what we saw.

If you've been reading Westford Patch over the past few months, or have been driving anywhere near Minot's Corner for that matter, you've seen all the construction down at Cornerstone Square, at least parts of it. Here's a look at some things on the site itself we got to see during a tour last week.

Yes, Westford is conveniently located off 495 but my biggest concern is the traffic for us locals. These roads are already congested at rush hour and now there will be even more cars. There have been many times I've come out of the Emerson Health bldg and had to make a right on to 110 and it was backed up to the 110/Boston Road light. The new stores/business are going to make it harder to get …   more ›

The Final Cornerstone Entranceway Sign Is Approved

The Planning Board may have potentially avoided a lawsuit for the town with their 3-2 approval of the third sign across from where Eastern Bank now stands.

It’s been month after month, meeting after meeting, but it’s finally finished. On Monday, the Planning Board approved a standard sign permit for the third and final freestanding entranceway sign at Cornerstone Square in a 3-2 decision. The vote may have been the last planning and zoning measure for the entire plaza before its opening this fall, and could have potentially turned into a lawsuit against the town if it had failed, as noted during the meeting. Cornerstone’s other two entranceway signs at Boston Road and the north side of Littleton Road next to Eastern Bank were granted special permits earlier in the month during a meeting that dragged on for nearly five hours. At that meeting where a determination that this sign on the south …

Public Hearing Closed on Cornerstone Signs, Decision Coming

It's expected that the Planning Board will make a decision on the freestanding entranceway signs for the project in what will be their fifth meeting discussing the topic.

It appears that a conclusion is finally coming for the ongoing Cornerstone Square entrance sign saga, but that conclusion couldn’t be reached on Monday night. The Westford Planning Board opted to close the public hearing on the issue of freestanding directory entranceway signs for the new development between I-495, Boston and Littleton Road, which will leave the board to make a decision upon information they’ve received on Monday along with hearings in April, May, and June. Cornerstone Square attorney Douglas Deschenes continued to urge approval for the three signs, two of which would be on the northern and southern sides of Littleton Road near Eastern Bank with the other along Boston Road near Exit 32. In particular, he noted that no …

Thanks Andrew. I'm trying to stay reasonably neutral on this issue. All opinions are encouraged at the Planning Board meeting. Signs aren't my primary personal issue, but I've been helping some neighbors with this as I have experience modifying other sections of the zoning bylaw. The issue for the last two years has been that the Sign Bylaw was previously not clearly articulated or well enforced…   more ›

Not my problem. I do all my shopping in Littleton, Concord and Pheasant Lane Mall area in S. Nashua tax free NH. What's wrong w a WalMart or a Target for Westford? And if town 's gonna subsidize/supervise these CS developers, why not invest in a sidewalk on Boston Rd, connecting Westford Center w retail area for walking instead of gridlock? Hello!   more ›

Report Outlines Future of Minot's Corner

During Monday night's Planning Board meeting, an overview was given of certain aspects of Minot's Corner ranging from traffic projections to improvement plans.

Following the continuing Cornerstone sign discussion, the Westford Planning Board took a look at another issue impacting Minot's Corner: Minot's Corner itself. The intersection, which brings together Boston, Carlisle and Littleton Road, will be undergoing improvements beginning next year that will continue until 2014 according to a presentation given during the meeting. Westford Patch will provide more information on improvements to the crucial intersection over the upcoming months, and readers can get up to the minute traffic information there and at other parts of town by going to westford.patch.com/traffic. The presentation can be seen in its entirety on the Westford CAT website.

that is the frustrating part of all this, I turn left at the light coming off 495 North, that gets blocked everyday at 5 pm...(and it is not farmers market traffic) so why you wouldn't address the intersection before building a huge complex is absolutely mindless and honestly if something would happen to me going forward wonder what my legal recourse would be.   more ›
