The popular ice cream and family destination highlighted plans for utility improvements in front of the local conservation board last week.
The head engineer of Kimball Farm outlined a proposal for underground utility improvements in front of the Westford Conservation Committee this past Wednesday night. Mark Donohoe, who is head of surveying and engineering of Kimball Farms, briefly spoke in front of the Committee about the Farm’s plan to relocate overhead wires to conduits. He also briefly outlined plans to install a new transformer. “We (at Kimball Farm) are going forward with a habitat study,” Donohoe told the Conservation Committee. “This is a needed upgrade, but we might want to hear from the (Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program) first.” The popular ice cream and family-entertainment location, which is located at 400 Littleton Road, owns two-hundred and ten …

The Conservation Commission put a deadline of 30 days from their Wednesday meeting for the Burlington-based company to come into compliance with terms specified on their lease for this year and last year.
The Guard Up Summer Day Camp has 30 days as of Wednesday to come into compliance for this year and last year on insurance agreements specified on its lease for the Day Camp at the East Boston Camps. That was the message sent by the Conservation Commission following a discussion at their last meeting in late July over concerns that the Burlington-based company was not meeting requirements under its lease with the Conservation Commission over insurance. Members of the board in attendance were unanimous in their concern over the issue, with a 4-1 majority believing that giving Guard Up the deadline was a necessary step to protect the town from possible liability. Only Robert Boonstra dissented, citing fears that a showdown could potentially …

Here's a quick look into what's going on in Westford politics and government for the week of Aug. 6.
Welcome to August, Westford! Here's a quick rundown on some things going on in local government and politics. Planning Board A decision will likely be made on Monday night's Planning Board meeting over the ongoing debate over freestanding entrance signs at Cornerstone Square, which was closed to public discussion at the last Planning Board meeting in July. The meeting also holds another discussion over a freestanding sign request for Kindercare on Carlisle Road and sign requests from three businesses within Cornerstone Square itself (Market Basket, Family Eye Care Center, Five Guys). Conservation Commission On Wednesday night, the Conservation Commission will hold a discussion over the topic of insurance issues with Guard Up and the …

The board agreed to pay the $3,565 remaining in costs on last December's oil spill at the East Boston Camps.
The Westford Conservation Commission has agreed to pay $3,565 toward the cost of last year’s emergency oil spill at the East Boston Camps following their meeting on Wednesday night. Of the $11,000 in damages from the December spill, most of it was covered by the insurance of East Boston Camps caretaker George Fletcher, who caused the spill when diesel fuel leaked out of his tractor and onto trails at the camp and on the way to his home on Plain Road. The incident could not go out to bid due to the urgent nature of the cleanup. During the agenda item on the topic, the board also discussed whether the town’s insurance should have been involved in helping to pay off the debt, or whether Fletcher’s role as an independent contractor absolved …

The matter now goes back to the Tax Possession Sales Committee, which meets on May 17, and appears that it will eventually go before Town Meeting.
In the latest chapter of the ongoing Bruce Freeman Rail Trail parking issue, the Conservation Commission agreed to help place a conservation restriction upon the controversial Vose Parcel. After a recent discussion by the Tax Possession Sale Committee (TPSC) on how to dispose of the property drew a lengthy debate, a delay was made to see if the parcel could be transferred from its current status as a TPSC property to the ownership of the Conservation Commission. The idea was brought forth as a way to ensure that the town could keep the property in a natural state while ensuring that people would not congregate near the property per the neighbors’ desires. “This is a happy solution for all sides, but we’d need to get a legal opinion,” …
