Board of Health Continues Warning on Swimming at Nab Lake

Fears of cyanobacteria stemming from algae blooms have led the board to continue a warning first issued over the weekend.

  The Westford Board of Health is continuing to caution resident not to swim in Nabnasset Lake due to fears of potential cyanobacteria. First issued on Sunday, the caution began after algae blooms were found, a common precursor to the harmful bacteria. According to a statement from the Board of Health, the outbreak of algae blooms likely is due in part from warm and dry weather, something common in various nearby lakes during recent months. The board and the Massachusetts Department of Health will be conducting tests throughout the week with the next determination to expected to be announced sometime on Friday.
