Westford Softball Capitalizes In Rematch

Key defensive and offensive performances put the Grey Ghosts one step closer to the playoffs.

Good fielding, smart base running and some timely hitting proved key for Westford Academy softball on Thursday in their 6-1 victory over Lincoln-Sudbury. Scoring a pair of runs in the first thanks to key contributions from Ali DiFonzo and Katie Lowe, the Grey Ghosts added another rally in the fourth to build a 4-0 lead, which was ultimately all that they would need. While a pair of singles by Lincoln-Sudbury sophomore Becca Ryan and freshman Gill Vesely set up the Warriors' first run in the sixth inning, but the Grey Ghosts quickly responded in the next inning with a pair of insurance runs. This Week in Westford Sports

Teams look to keep rolling this week.

The Westford Academy boys lacrosse team (8-3) has won three games in a row, posting big Dual County League wins over Newton South and Waltham. The team defeated Tyngsborough 9-7 Monday. The WA boys volleyball team continued its march through the DCL schedule, as it has won four DCL games in a row, shutting out opponents 3-0 each time. The team has won five of six games overall. After starting the season winless, the WA girls lacrosse team picked up two DCL wins last week, defeating Newton South and Waltham. The girls travel to Wayland Tuesday. The WA softball team earned a recent 8-7 win over Waltham. Ali DiFonzo delivered a clutch two-run single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning for the win. DiFonzo’s hit followed key …
