Abbot Mill Named Building Project of the Year by National Group

The Construction Management Association of America honored the Forge Village landmark last week.

In its role as the centerpiece for Forge Village, the Abbot Mill has come a long way, and that journey from Westford's industrial hearth to a refurbished upscale residential complex has earned it a note of distinction from the Construction Management Association of America. The group honored Tocci Building Companies with the Building Project of the Year in a Renovation/Modernization Project Over $20 Million category at their New England Chapter awards luncheon last week. Developed in partnership with Yule Development Co., and Ganek Architects, the Mill's metamorphisis transformed the 150-year-old fabric mill into 131 residential units. “This award is a tribute not only to the entire construction team as individual components – the owner…

TELL US: What Are Your Thoughts on Abbot Mills' Dog DNA Poop Testing?

Dog feces at the new property will be tested using DNA analysis. Is this a good idea, or is it an invasion of privacy?

At the beginning of October, all dog owners at the Abbot Mill complex were given a letter indicating they had to pay $25 to get a DNA sample of their pooch on file just in case dog feces was found on the property. Residents not providing a DNA sample or found with a dog who dropped feces on Abbot Mill property have to have a $100 fine, with the possibility of those who don't pay finding their leases terminated. According to a report by the Lowell Sun, only five percent of the residents at the complex own dogs, and the DNA system has been used at other properties in North Andover and New Hampshire. Today we want to hear what you think: is this an invasion of privacy or is it a good idea to help keep sidewalks and lawns in the area clean …

What people do on their own property is their business. It is when people enter the public domain and shared spaces that the rules change. Since these people's pets are pooping in public, it can not be considered a private matter. Therefore I don't believe it is invading anyone's privacy. Dogs are property, like a car in the eyes of the law anyway. We tag cars with VIN #s and license plates to …   more ›

$300,000 In Tax Credits Announced For Abbot Mills

Westford's representatives in the State Legislature have announced that $300,000 in state tax credits can now be utilized for the Abbot Mills restoration project in Forge Village.

(The following is a released statement from the office of State Representative James Arciero.) State Representative James Arciero and State Senator Eileen Donoghue earlier this week announced that the Abbot Mills project application for a Massachusetts Historical Tax Credit was approved. The award, $300,000 in state tax credits will be utilized by the Yule Corporation in its efforts to renovate the shuttered historic mill into condominium housing for area residents. “I am pleased that an historic property in Westford was able to be successful in this grant application. The renovation will not only be important for the housing opportunities it will provide, but will complement the Forge Village section of Westford,” said Arciero when …
