A vehicle reportedly struck a deer on 495 North here in Westford. UPDATE: A separate car has also been reported on fire.
We're receiving reports that a car has struck a deer near Exit 32 on 495 North here in Westford, with the car and the deer both currently off the road. All lanes are currently open to traffic, we will attempt to get more information if it becomes available. The accident was not related to the earlier accident involving the deer. No injuries were reported from the second crash. State Police indicate that the accident was cleared up quickly on Friday morning and required Hazmat teams to clean up a diesel spill.
Two lanes of I-495 North near Exit 32 were closed off on Friday morning following a tractor trailer incident at approximately 5:45 a.m. Massachusetts State Police officials indicate that Westford Fire Department Hazmat teams were on the scene about three minutes later and that Massachusetts Department of Transportation vehicles assisted in cleaning up a diesel spill from the truck approximately 7:15 a.m. By 7:56 a.m., all lanes were re-opened to traffic and all first responder vehicles had left the scene. Mass DOT is reporting that motorists should expect significant delays on 495 from June 3 until the end of the 2012 construction season.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (Mass DOT) reported on Wednesday that motorists should expect significant delays between Exit 32 onto Boston Road and the Chelmsford border from June 3 until the end of the 2012 construction season several months from now. Construction will include vegetation clearing, ramp work at Exit 32, and work on the bridge over Tadmuck Road. The project is expected to cost nearly $3.78 million dollars, most of which will be paid by the federal government. Mass DOT is recommending that motorists find alternate routes during the construction period. Up to date traffic information is available under the Commute tab on the Westford Patch home page.

I have deer whistles on my truck. Usually mounted with adhesive, they're supposed to emit a sound we cant hear, but spooks the animal into freezing still, instead of leaping out in front of you. Not fool proof; I believe they've helped many times. Out West roadsigns light up if sensors pickup a herd of elk, deer or antelope in the dark.
