Katie Ernst was just a hundred yards away from the finish line when last Monday's blast in Boston ended her first experience in the Boston Marathon, but she was able to "finish" the race back here in Westford thanks to a few of her friends.
Finishing a marathon is a special accomplishment regardless of the circumstances, but Westford Academy student Katie Ernst got a particularly special end after the harrowing experiences she faced during first Boston Marathon last week. Ernst was only 100 yards away from the finish line when the first blast went off last Monday, but although she wasn’t able to get across the line on Boylston Street, her friends made a finish line for her to cross on Westford Common the next day. While her muscles were sore from running 26 miles, the cold temperatures and the traumatic conditions in Boston a day earlier, getting across the finish line in Westford was a memory she will never forget. “I was really limping, but I made it through. I was so angry…

Westford Academy led 3-2 at halftime but cruised past the Lady Lions in the second half and grabbed a 14-6 win.
The Westford Academy girls lacrosse team was locked in a one-goal game when halftime arrived versus Chelmsford on Tuesday afternoon. But thanks to a second half outburst, it was smooth sailing for the Grey Ghosts the rest of the way. After leading, 3-2, at the intermission, Westford opened the floodgates with its offensive attack. The Lions chipped away and made the score 8-6 midway through the second half, but the Grey Ghosts then scored six consecutive goals to seal a 14-6 win.

Patch editor gives a first-hand report from the Boston Marathon.
Monday, April 15 was my first time running the Boston Marathon. It was supposed to be a fun day focused on overcoming a strenuous 26.2-mile race, but once I reached the end, I was greeted with panic, caution and tears rather than high fives and celebrations. Monday was a perfect day for a runner and spectator, it was sunny and warm with a cool breeze. It would be hard to find an excuse why anyone with the day off from work wouldn’t be in town to either watch the race, the Sox game or to grab a bite at a restaurant. I was running this marathon as a bandit. I had no official number and was nervous security or someone from the Boston Athletic Association would kick me out. Once I reached the start line, it was smooth sailing. I was full of …

Westford Academy had a lead with two outs in the seventh inning, but the Lions rallied to tie the game and eventually won, 3-2, in extra innings.
The Westford Academy baseball team entered the final frame with the lead, and recorded the first two outs within the blink of an eye. But just as quickly, the Grey Ghost lead escaped as Chelmsford mounted a comeback and eventually earned an extra inning victory. After putting down the first two batters of the visiting seventh inning, Westford Academy's outfield couldn't handle a long fly ball, putting Chelmsford's Jack Campsmith on third base with two outs. The next batter, Michael DeDonato, knotted the game at 2-2 with a hard single just inside the third base bag. After a scoreless eighth inning, Chelmsford struck again in the ninth inning and held on for a 3-2 victory.
