Officials stress there is no threat to the public, details still emerging.
Boston Police announced a major new development in the Boston Marathon bombing case Wednesday morning. According to the department, there are three new suspects in custody. Boston Police tweeted the news just after 11 a.m. Wednesday. There were no further details, though the police said they would offer more information soon. There is no additional information being released at the moment. BPD said additional details will be provided when they become available. Police stressed there was no immediate threat to the public. Westford residents should seek alternate routes for the next few days.
If you're seeing delays on Littleton Road today, it's probably not Minot's Corner again. Westford Police are advising residents to watch out for delays on Route 110 from South Chelmsford Road to Nashoba Valley Technical High School due to parking lot construction work at the high school. This weekend is also the weekend of the Westford 5K and 10K Road Race, which begins next to the Abbot School and heads around the center until finishing in front of the J.V. Fletcher Library. Police are reminding residents to be alert for detours on Main St., Depot St., Hildreth St. Lincoln St., Forge Village Rd., Graniteville Rd., and Concord Rd., as well as some secondary roads nearby between 1:45 and 3:14 p.m. on Sunday.
William O'Neill is charged with threatening the woman who pressed charges against his daughter for theft.
A Westford woman and her father were arrested recently, both facing felony charges. Nashua Police say the daughter was arrested and charged April 10 with a theft, and the father was arrested six days later, for threatening his daughter's alleged victim, demanding she drop the charges. According to police, in January of 2012 a theft was reported from a Nashua residence in excess $1,500. Meghan O’Neill, 30, of 11 Chestnut Road, Westford, Mass., who was known to the victim, was identified as the suspect. An arrest warrant was issued for Meghan O’Neill, who was taken into custody April 10. April 15, 7:43 p.m. - Portions of a hotel were evacuated after a fire alarm went off. Upon further investigation, the source of the alarm stemmed from a guest who overcooked popcorn in a microwave. April 17, 1:47 p.m. - A brush fire on Crocker Drive impacted a 1,500 square foot area. Officials believe that improper disposal of ashes from a wood stove caused the blaze. April 18, 8:54 a.m. - The odor of smoke at St. Catherine's had been caused by a faulty light fixture. Electricians were able to fix the problem. April 18, 1:36 p.m. - Westford firefighters aided in dealing with a condo fire in Tyngsboro, specifically to help with venting the second floor of the contol and overhauling the building once the fire was controlled. The man called the "Merrimack Valley Bandit," who police say robbed 15 banks and a convenience store in the Merrimack Valley, southern New Hampshire and Maine, including a bank in Westford, is also the son of a retired Cambridge Police detective who owns a night club in Lawrence. Rafael Beamud Jr. of Lowell, was arrested in Salem, N.H., Tuesday night after a traffic stop in which police identified him with photos of the "Bandit" from the FBI. A former Salem, N.H., resident, Beamud Jr. was arrested in Salem earlier this year on drug charges, as reported by Salem Patch. The suspect was wanted in relation to a bank robbery in Lawrence
Massachusetts State Police released a statement today that a state trooper pursued a suspect from a Lawrence bank robbery through 495, ending in Westford. At approximately 10:15 a.m., Lawrence Police asked other law enforcement agencies to be on the look out for a Ford Explorer operated by George Melendez, 46, of Lowell for alleged bank robbery. The vehicle was spotted heading south on 495 in Lowell and did not stop, leading to a six mile chase. There were no reported injuries and no property damage as a result of the pursuit and arrest. Lawrence Police are continuing investigation into the incident this morning that led to the charges.

Governor Deval Patrick announced this week he has appointed Marian T. Ryan as Middlesex County District Attorney (DA), according to a press release issued by Patrick's office. Ryan, who currently serves as the Middlesex DA's general counsel, will assume the responsibilities for the Middlesex County DA's Office as DA Gerald Leone recently stepped down from his post to join a private law firm. A 30-year veteran of the Middlesex County DA's office, Ryan has served as general counsel and chief of the office's elder and disabled unit, the press release said. Sean Collier will be remembered at an MIT memorial service at noon on Wednesday. Collier, who was killed Thursday, was laid to rest on Tuesday morning. Police believe the Boston Marathon bombing suspects shot Collier as he responded to an unrelated robbery. Patch will provide updates throughout the memorial service. The suspect was arrested after months of robberies.
After allegedly robbing more than a dozen banks in the Merrimack Valley, southern New Hampshire and Maine, including the Bank of America in Westford last week, a suspect in the "Merrimack Valley Bandit" case has been apprehended in Salem, N.H. Salem Police Lt. Steve Malisos said that Rafael Beamud Jr. of Lowell was puled over on a traffic stop near Home Depot and then identified as the man federal authorities have been looking for.
