Hazmat Situation Near School in Littleton Addressed by WFD

Westford Fire Log for May 6-13.

The following are excerpts from the Westford Fire Department log for the week of May 6 to 13. Wednesday, May 9 11:48 a.m. – A peculiar odor sent five fire department units to the scene of the Ninety Nine Restaurant, where the building was investigated. 11:18 p.m. – Two ambulances were dispatched to the Route 4 off-ramp in Chelmsford for injuries related to a motor vehicle crash. Injured parties were taken to Lowell General Hospital Thursday, May 10 1:01 p.m. – A minor fuel leak was reported near the Chelmsford border along Littleton Road. No further information was given. Mr. Katz, I have done some research and it is very unlikely that there are any cougars in Westford. This is not their natural habitat. They are most commonly found in the Western half of the US. In addition, cougars are a very quiet animal.   more ›

Bear Sightings Just Outside Westford

Tyngsborough Police report that bears have been sighted near the Westford border.

Earlier today, the Tyngsborough Police reported on the town of Tyngsborough Facebook page that three bear sightings were made on Scribner and Groton Road, just north of Long Sought-for Pond in Westford. The Westford Police Department is asking residents to remain inside their homes if they spot bears rather than approach them and call 978-692-2161. More information on bears in Massachusetts can be found at the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife website.

Recent Scams Prompt Police Call for Added Vigilance

Westford Police are asking local residents to stay on the look out for potential scam artists after recent incidents involving illegal paving operations and storm drain basin thefts at various locations.

Summer hasn’t officially started yet, but in what may be a duplication of the uptick in crime as the weather improved last year, Westford Police have been urging residents to remain vigilant of several scam artists over the past few weeks. The first alert came from Kirsi Circle and a company that Westford Police indicate violated several laws while soliciting residents door to door seeking to sell their driveway paving services. Residents on the street tipped off police to the company, Boston Paving and Masonry, which had performed what police indicated as substandard driveway paving jobs that created potential traffic delays and did not engage in appropriate safety procedures. Brush Fire Behind Groton Road Dunkin Donuts

Westford Fire Department Log - April 29 to May 6

  The following are excerpts from the Westford Fire Department log for the week of April 29 to May 6. Sunday, April 29 6:42 p.m. - A brush fire was spotted in the woods behind Dunkin' Donuts on Groton Road.   Only the Westford Fire Department's brush fire vehicle and a separate fire engine were needed to extinguish the blaze. Monday, April 30 7:45 a.m. - Paramedics didn't have far to travel, responding to a medical emergency inside of the Fire Station on Oak Hill Road at Old Nab Corner. Injured parties were taken to Lowell General. Saturday, May 5 4:40 p.m. - A trio of fire engines were dispatched to investigate odor of gas detected at the Brookside Mill on Brookside Road.

Nabnasset Country Club Scene of Thursday Burglary

Initial reports indicate that an unspecified amount of money was taken by the Pro Shop.

The Pro Shop at the Nabnasset Country Club on the corner of Oak Hill Road and Nabnasset Street was burglarized very early on Thursday morning, with suspects allegedly kicking in the door to the building and taking an unspecified amount of money. Westford's K9 Unit responded to the scene and Westford Police officials report that they are investigating the incident further. We'll have more information as it comes.
