April 24, 11:33 a.m. - Police were dispatched to Vineyard Road for a reported altercation between an landscaping employee and his boss. Switching back and forth from English to Spanish, the employee told police he no longer wished to work for his boss, but would not be driven home. The boss, who arrived later, said that the employee was told to be quiet when a personal cell phone conversation the employee was having on the job site was interfering with a business conversation the boss was having. This enraged the employee, who walked away and was dropped off later by another landscaping company. At this point the employee said he was going to call the police. Jeff Morrissette is settling into his role as Westford's new Town Planner following several other jobs in New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
Anyone watching on television or there in person for Planning Board meetings over the past few weeks may have noticed a newcomer. In case you didn’t know, that’s recently appointed Town Planner Jeff Morrissette. And while he’s a newcomer to Westford, he’s certainly no newcomer to the world of zoning and planning. Morrissette arrived from three and a half years as Assistant Town Planner just up Route 3 in Merrimack, NH; which in itself was followed by 11 years of consulting work in Chelmsford and then Marlborough. Although Westford is Morrissette’s first public sector job in Massachusetts, given his background on both sides of the border, he’s felt comfortable stepping in for Chris Kluchman, who in turn was promoted after Angus Jennings …

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Middlesex County until 9 p.m.
The National Weather Service is predicting up to two inches of rain in less than an hour this evening in Westford and other parts of Middlesex County, which could cause flash flooding particularly in urban areas and locations with poor drainage. A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation, and the NWS recommends monitoring later forecasts and to be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.

Debate to air on WCVB Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Another U.S. Senate election for Massachusetts is drawing to a close, with the two combatants set to square off one final time before voters head to the polls June 25. Democratic Congressman Edward Markey of Malden and Republican businessman and former U.S. Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez will hold the last of three debates Tuesday evening in the race to fill the seat formerly held by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry. The debate will air live from 7 to 8 p.m. on WCVB (Channel 5). The debate will be moderated by R.D. Sahl of Boston University. The National Weather Service reported just before 5 p.m. that quarter sized hail was seen to the west of Westford.
New England Cable News' Matt Noyes and Westford veterans' agent Terry Stader are reporting on Twitter hail falling in Westford approximately half an inch in diameter. The National Weather Service released a warning earlier today warning of strong thunderstorms for parts of Westford, noting that areas near Leominster were seeing quarter-sized hail at approximately 4:55 p.m.

While the system was slightly new this year, members of the School Committee overall were satisfied with the work of Superintendent Bill Olsen over the past year.
As the school year comes to a close, Westford's students are seeing the their final grades for the year, but they're not alone. Each summer, the School Committee gives their grades to Superintendent Bill Olsen on his progress toward a series of goals set for the school year. Presented during last week's meeting, the six members of the Committee present throughout the year was generally pleased with his performance on the five overarching goals set for Olsen, as well as his overall performance. Although he "exceeded" expectations only twice (with School Committee Member Arthur Benoit saying his performance fell between "meeting" and "exceeding" expectations on implementation of the new DESE Education Evaluation System, none of the members…
