Former high school teacher Pat Conaway sees real hope in the young people who help him clean the area's trails, waterways and roadways.
Pat Conaway admits he is "kind of a nut" about the environment, so when he retired from teaching in 2008, it didn't take long for him to find a number of productive ways to spend his time. "I wanted to get people fired up about the environment, to try to encourage citizens to get involved locally," said Conaway, founder of Big Hearts, Little Feet. A nearly constant presence on area roadways, trails and waterways, Conaway can be found leading groups of volunteers, including many students, to pick up trash, improve trails and remove invasive species. From beer cans to soda and coffee cups, trash tossed by the roadside washes into local rivers and, if left alone, eventually finds its way to the ocean, where scientists have found plastic …

The Sox manager received the lowest disapproval percentage in Public Policy Polling history – even better than Abraham Lincoln, Mother Theresa and Santa Claus. What a difference a year makes for the Sox. The team’s hot start has 27 percent of those who took the survey predicting a World Series. Only 3 percent said the Sox will not make the playoffs. Sixty-four percent of those surveyed said Farrell is doing a good job. Only 1 percent disapproved of Farrell’s work this year. Excerpts from the Westford Fire Department log for the week of May 5 to 13, 2013
May 6, 4:27 p.m. - Firefighters got a call of a brush fire on Route 3 Southbound along the tiny strip of Route 3 in Westford, but it actually turned out to be in Tyngsborough. The Tyngsborough Fire Department ultimately handled the call, which was a small grass fire. May 7, 4:51 p.m. - An 800 square foot fire was reported on Graniteville Road. The fire was eventually extinguished. May 8, 7:26 p.m. - A homeowner on River Street was caught illegally burning materials in their yard. They were advised of burning rules and regulations and the fire was extinguished. May 11, 5:06 p.m. - As with River Street, another home owner was caught illegally burning on Elm Road. The fire was extinguished. No further information was available.

I want to thank everyone who supported me in my efforts to
run for a seat on the Board of Selectmen.
The day Ed Cohen walked into our station, asking if he could do a weather show, I had no idea that his program would be setting a new high for Westford CAT, becoming the most watched and most commented on program ever done at the station.
It was a beautiful day for a parade in Westford. If you were there, share your photos!

Congratulations to 2013 Apple Blossom Queen Leah DeTolla, Westford Kiwanian of the Year Don Drew, and Westford Kiwanis People of the Year Bill and Marian Harman.
