Weekend Agenda: Visit an Art Show or Cheer on the Grey Ghosts in Pre-Season Ball

A look at what to do this weekend in the Westford area.

Cheer on the Local Team: High school football season officially begins next week, but you can get a sneak peek at the Westford Academy varsity football team at a scrimmage against Methuen and Billerica Memorial High Schools. The Grey Ghosts will be hosting Friday, August 30, 6 p.m., at Turf Field, 30 Patten Rd.

For indoor athletics, watch the girls varsity volleyball team take on Andover High School, Saturday, August 31, 9 a.m., at Andover High School, 80 Shawsheen Rd., Andover.

Acton-Boxborough Farmers Market: it's always interesting to visit neighboring farmer's markets...you just never know what you will find. The Acton-Boxborough Farmer's Market runs every Saturday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Pearl St., West Acton, through October 20. The ABFM vendors offer a great variety of fresh, local goods, including: a myriad of vegetables, fruits, cheeses, Middle Eastern spreads, meats, breads, flowers, baked goods, eggs, jams, bagels, wines, salsas and condiments, handmade soaps, and plants for the home garden. A special treat this season: locally crafted ice cream!

Art Show: the Art on Main Gallery is launching a new September show, 'Visions of Water,' by Peggy Brester. The subject of water is seen through many forms in this series with inspiration of realism and abstract art. This eclectic gallery also display other creative forms of artistry, sells unique gifts and offers classes. Meet the artist, Sunday, September 1, 10 a.m., at 40 Main St. www.artonmainwestford.com.

Westford Hill Alpaca Farm: this charming local farm, only a year old, operates with more than a dozen Alpacas. A visit to this specialized farm is a great venue to introduce these beautiful and quirky animals to young children. The farm is operated by Marc and Lisa Selman and their 10-year-old son.
