Westford's Leong Named Top Youth Volunteer by Prudential

11 year old Jessica Leong has been honored for her volunteer work by the Prudential Spirit of Community Award program

 

fifth grader Jessica Leong has been named as one of six "distinguished finalists" by the Prudential Spirit of Community Award program.

Leong, 11, raised more than $2,000 to assist tornado victims affected last year in Western Massachusetts and also volunteers her time helping to teach other children how to swim, using her experience as a champion swimmer.

Leong has also helped her sisters in a yearly event where they gather toys each Christmas for needy area children.

Other distinguished finalists from this year's selection include 15 year old Moira Landry of Swampscott, 18 year old Eric Lacroix of Methuen, 17 year old Michael Firn of Dover, 18 year old Daniel Dietz of Northampton and 18 year old Elizabeth Belanger of Northbridge.

"Through their selfless acts of service, these award recipients have greatly improved the lives of others," said Prudential chairman and CEO John Strangfeld. "We hope their stories and dedication inspire other young people to do the same."
