According to an article in the Boston Globe, much of the support from Westford is in honor of a local teenager.

The newspaper reported that 25 local riders are signed up for the PMC as a part of Team Cycle for Colby’s Ride. The group is honoring 17-year-old Westford resident Colby Schofield, who is in remission from Stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphona. The Globe reported that the team has already raised more than $85,000.
