With One Exception, Grey Ghosts Field Hockey Has Been Dominant in September

Westford has achieved significant victories throughout the month of September, going undefeated except for a 4-0 loss to Acton-Boxborough last Monday.

As the month of September comes to a close, the Westford Academy field hockey team appears poised for a deep run into postseason play after strong performances against some of the state’s best teams.

With the exception of a 4-0 loss against Acton-Boxborough on Monday, the Grey Ghosts have been undefeated so far this season, outscoring all opponents other than Acton-Boxborough by a score of 43-4.

Senior Allison Avery has posted shutouts against Waltham, Newton South, Tewksbury, Groton-Dunstable and Bedford, with the Ghosts offense recording more than five goals against Newton South,  Groton-Dunstable, Bishop Fenwick, Bedford, and Weston.

In particular, Westford’s 7-2 performance against Weston signified the team’s dominance against foes outside of the Colonials, with Westford having only defeated the Wildcats four times in the past fourteen seasons, and never scoring more than three goals in any of those victories.
