Mixed Start for Grey Ghost Golfers

Westford defeated Waltham, but fell in a tri-meet to Wayland and Newton South to start the season.

The fall sports season is in full swing and Westford Academy’s golfers have their first two Dual County League matches in the books, with mixed results.

Westford finished third in a tri-meet against Wayland and Newton South on Monday at Sandy Burr Country Club in Wayland.

The Ghosts ended their day with 88 points in the Modified Stableford System, used for all Dual County League golf matches, finishing a combined 60 strokes over par.

Meanwhile, Newton South ended the match with 97 points, going 51 strokes over par, and Wayland got 106 points, going 42 strokes over par.

Zack Miller led the way for Westford with 15 points, followed by Zach Reid, Patrick Hesseltine and Connor Morse with 13.

Westford bounced back at home on Wednesday, convincingly defeating Waltham at Nab Lake Country Club, 104-53.

The Ghosts finished with 37 fewer strokes than the Hawks, with Zach Reid leading both teams with 22 points. Kevin Snow was Waltham’s best golfer on the day, grabbing 17 points.

Westford hits the links next on Monday for a home meet against Lincoln-Sudbury at Nab Lake.
