Good First Week For Westford Academy Field Hockey

Westford Academy is 2-0 after wins against Groton-Dunstable and Chelmsford.

Westford Academy's field hockey team is hoping for a strong year with ten seniors and 13 returning veterans, and so far they're off to a good start.

Here are some recaps from their recent games.

September 4, at home vs. Groton-Dunstable

Although the Grey Ghosts needed some time to get going, only scoring one first half goal, Westford Academy ultimately had little trouble, defeating Groton-Dunstable 7-0.

Bretta Beer helped begin scoring with that first half goal, followed by Allia Connolly, Alayna Serpa, Tianna Habosian, Jenna Klinka.

Connolly concluded Westford's shutout with a second goal while Allison Avery had four saves in net.

September 6 at Chelmsford

Chelmsford ended 2012 as the Merrimack Valley Conference champions, but Westford was not intimidated, defeating the Lions 2-1.

Possession was shared equally between both teams, as Westford could not get on the board until Allia Connolly scored six minutes before halftime.

Chelmsford would tie the contest with two minutes left in the game, but Connolly gave Westford the win with 48 seconds left.

Upcoming Games

The Ghosts have home games on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Bedford and Friday at 4 p.m. against Bishop Fenwick after they begin the week on the road against Weston on Monday at 4 p.m.
