The Fashion Truck Is Setting Up Shop In Westford

Westford native Emily Benson is taking her haute Fashion Truck from the streets of Boston to a brick-and-mortar location in the Art on Main building.

Art on Main is getting a new tenant and it’s a truck! Well, sort of….

Westford native Emily Benson is taking her renowned Fashion Truck from the haute locale of Downtown Boston and coming home to open a brick-and-mortar version of her mobile clothing boutique at 40 Main Street in the Art on Main building, within walking distance of the Town Common.

Although she’s technically been based out of Westford for the past three years, Benson has parked the truck several days a week at Dewey Square as well as the SoWa Market in South Boston last summer.

There she’s found a niche with women looking for a convenient and unique way to shop, gaining a following in South Boston and other neighborhoods of Boston both at Dewey Square and Souwa Market as well as private events at local gyms, hair salons and beauty boutiques.

After moving from Westford for jobs with fashion labels such as Abercrombie and Fitch in Ohio and then Manhattan, Benson decided move back home and strike out on her own in the Boston area with her mobile boutique.

“I think Boston was an ideal spot to open a fashion truck. Women need fashion here, in New York the market was saturated,” she said. “The laws are much stricter in Manhattan, it’s a hard place to live. After awhile when you’re going a thousand miles an hour, it can get pretty exhausting. I just wanted to come back to my family and slow down a bit.”

While Benson always wanted to open a location without wheels in Westford itself, the circumstances didn’t prove right until recently when the Main Street location made itself available.

“My family moved to Westford when I was 8 and to me, Westford has always been the Town Common, the Roudenbush, the library,” said Benson. “Route 110 is great for some people, but for someone like me that wants to open a cute boutique, 110 is great and convenient, but too overwhelming.”

The store, which will be called “The Fashion Truck on Main” will take the former location of Sweetpea’s floral shop inside the building, although Benson says the truck will still be available regularly for private events and a second non-vehicular store may be on the horizon.

There will be a grand opening celebration on Friday night from 5 to 8 p.m. More information on the Fashion Truck is available on the Fashion Truck website.
