The Westford School Committee will meet on Monday night to discuss a 2014-2015 budget proposal that includes a 4.27 percent increase request.

According to a 13-page budget overview posted earlier this week on the town’s website, the department will present an overview of its $51,355,160 budget request.

Officials will be asking for additional staff above level service to “meet current student needs.” They include three full-time equivalent (FTEs) special education teacher assistants, a contracted license practical nurse, a preschool teacher and an assistant, both full-time, a SPED van driver, and as well as part-time math teachers, an ELA teacher and part-time staffer for the Bridge Program to address health and injury incidents at Westford Academy.

The public hearing will be held at 8 p.m. on March 10, in Conference Room B-Millennium.

Yes Virginia; there IS a Pot of gold! Its called the $4,000,000 in reserve funds which the town deceptively tried to hide in its books on top of the $2,000,000 it was willing to disclose. Pot of Gold indeed! The decision has been read and reread and all understand the implications of this decision. The School Committee is looking to hand out funds to retain staff so what came around now goes around. Bottom rails on top now eh ?

Is Westford a non-profit? Just because we have reserves means we must spend it.

WI refuses to think, par for the course! ---> FFs asked for 9% over 3 years and got 3% over 4 years. Is it now clear where that rail is running einstein?

FF asked for 9% knowing they wouldn't get it, they were offered 0 and got 3

So to be clear: rail will deliver low single digits (aka no pot of gold). ENJOY!
