Miller School Principal to Retire

Sarah Jill Mullavey will retire at the end of the school year and remain on leave, according to Westford school superintendent.

Sarah Jill Mullavey, the principal of the Miller Elementary School in Westford, will retire at the end of the school year, according to a letter to parents from Superintendent Everett V. Olsen Jr.

In a note to parents online, Olsen stated that Mullavey will remain on leave though and Rose Vetere, "a veteran principal," will take over duties at the school. Mullavey has been on leave since early March.

Rumors began circulating on Facebook pages about Mullavey’s employment status a few weeks ago. Olsen rebuked the comments about the leave and added that he appreciated all her years of service.

The full letter to parents posted on the Miller Elementary School website is below:

To the Miller School Community,
As you know, Miller School Principal Jill Mullavey has been on leave from the school since March 10.  I am writing to inform you that Mrs. Mullavey will retire at the end of the current school year and will remain on leave until such time.
I have designated Rose Vetere, a veteran principal of the Westford Public Schools, to assume the duties of Miller School Principal through the end of the school year.  Mrs. Vetere will be assisted in her duties by Assistant Principal Donna Pobuck.  I intend to begin the search process for a full-time principal for the 2014/2015 school year.
Unfortunately, this situation has become the subject of false and unfounded rumors, innuendo and speculation on social media and other forums.  I rebuke these in the strongest terms.  I wish to convey that Mrs. Mullavey has my utmost appreciation for her many years of service to the Westford Public Schools, and I wish her all the best.  In accordance with our policy not to discuss personnel matters, and out of respect for Mrs. Mullavey’s privacy, I cannot provide any further detail at this time.
Sincerely,
Everett V. Olsen, Jr. Superintendent
