Citizens’ Advisory Committee to Study Full-Day Kindergarten in Westford

The Westford School Committee has authorized the creation of a citizens' advisory committee to look at whether or not the town should implement a full-day kindergarten problem.
For a number of years, the school system has been thinking about the idea
The system is looking for five members of the community, parents or otherwise, to serve on the advisory committee along with four staffers (School Superintendent Everett Olsen and three K-2 school staff members.
The committee's purpose, according to a department email, will be "analyzing research and longitudinal achievement differentials between students in full-day versus half-day kindergarten programs in urban and non-urban school districts."
More information can be found online here: westfordk12.us/pages/citizens/index. Information from the committee will be given to the School Committee to make a decision about the idea.
Interested participants can send an email to Olsen at bolsen@westfordk12.us. Add “Kindergarten CAC” in the email subject line. The School Committee will approve of members in August.
