Westford Unemployment Continues to Drop

In a report published this month, Westford's unemployment rate dropped, as did its overall labor force.

Unemployment in Westford remains under state and national averages, and continues to stay steady as the town's overall labor force shrunk in the most recent report from the state.

According to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD), Westford's workforce decreased from 12,127 in October to 12,021 with approximately 20 fewer unemployed individuals, dropping the unemployement rate from 5.2 to 5.1 percent.

Statewide, the unemployment rate for November was 6.1 percent, down from 6.2 percent in October, and 6.4 percent compared to November 2011.

Among Westford's neighbors, Acton (4.4 to 4.2), Carlisle (4.2 to 3.7), Chelmsford (5.2 to 5.1), Groton (4.7 to 4.6), Littleton (4.3 to 4.2), and all saw drops in unemployment as well from October to November according to the EOLWD announcement, while Tyngsborough saw its rate raise (5.9 to 6.2).
