Westford Department Approves Water Main Relocation

Traffic should flow better on Route 110, Littleton Road, according to town engineer.

In an effort to reduce traffic delays during the early months of construction on Route 110/Littleton Road in Westford, the water department has authorized the contractor working for the MassDOT to relocate a new water main to the side of the road instead of placing it inside the traveled way, according to Town Engineer Paul Starratt.

In an alert sent out this week, Starratt said that the changes meant that traffic would be "directed around construction equipment working on the side of the road as opposed to closing down the whole lane."

The contractor will be working with police and the state to "keep traffic moving as smoothly as possible." He hoped that one lane would be kept open, at all times, in each direction.
"Relocating the water main makes this possible," he stated. "Commuters are reminded to drive with extreme caution in all construction work zones."
