State: Westford was OK to Redact Fire Chief Docs

The Massachusetts Public Records Division has ruled in favor of the town of Westford concerning the Lowell Sun's request for redacted information concerning the resignation of former Fire Chief Richard Rochon, according to an article in the Lowell Sun

Rochon resigned last year after a vote of no confidence by the town's fire union and an internal personnel review. It was later revealed that the chief received a $25,000 severance package.

The division, a department of the Secretary of State's Office, deemed the information withheld was acceptable after the newspaper requested documentation concerning the resignation, due to it falling under the personnel exemption of the state's Right-to-Know law.
