Mangiaratti, Ross Announce Major Insurance Savings

Near the end of last week’s Board of Selectmen meeting, Town Manager Jodi Ross and Assistant Town Manager John Mangiaratti announced significant savings following bidding to renew insurance policies for the town.

The town came to terms with the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association and VFIS of Southern New England for its property and liability policies along with workers compensation policies and injury policies for police and fire officials.

All three policies combine for a total of $539,766 in Fiscal Year 2013, which began yesterday, and address issues like unexpected damages and town employees injured on the job.

That figure is a nearly $2,000 decrease from the FY ’12 premium and approximately $40,000 less than what was expected prior to putting the contract out to bid, due in large part to the large amount of automobile-related damage claims put forth from winter storms.

The Selectmen unanimously approved acceptance of the policies, with Chairwoman Andrea Peraner-Sweet indicating that she believes this is the second or third time that Mangiaratti has saved the town significant amounts in situations such as these.
