Injured Bedford Woman Rescued Off Mountain

NH Fish and Game was called to Mt. Major on Sunday.

A Bedford woman had to be rescued while hiking at Mt. Major in Alton on Sunday.

According to the Union Leader, 21-year-old Shannon Koechel of Bedford injured her ankle near the summit of the Boulder Loop Trail on Mt. Major, which is located off Route 11, around 2:30 yesterday afternoon.

Though she and her group were said to be properly prepared, Koechel reportedly wasn't able to make it down the mountain without assistance due to snow and ice concerns.

Nine volunteers helped Koechel reach the bottom of the mountain a couple hours later and she was driven home with a minor ankle injury.
