I-495 Southbound Re-Opened After Early Evening Crash

State Police and the Westford Fire Department temporarily closed I-495 to respond to two crashes Monday night.

I-495 Southbound on the Westford/Littleton line, temporarily closed after a seven-car crash Monday evening, has been reopened to traffic, according to Twitter reports from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

A seven-car crash and a second crash that followed caused State Police to close I-495 Southbound for nearly an hour. All lanes had been closed between Exit 31 and 32 at the Route 119 connection, according to Twitter reports.

Two medical transports have been reported, according to "@tyngemergencyblog" on Twitter. One transport came from the seven-car accident, and the other from the second accident that is said to have followed.

No reports of injuries have been received yet.

A second crash happened a quarter-mile down the highway, according to tweets from "@NEFireBuff," who also tweeted  that companies responding were reporting "gridlock" conditions.

The crashes happened during a brief downpour Monday afternoon.

Westford Patch is waiting to hear from State Police for confirmation and updates.
