Southbound lanes of I-495 have been temporarily closed by Massachusetts State Police and the Westford Fire Department while they continue to clean up from a seven-car crash and a second crash that followed, according to Twitter reports.

Two medical transports have been reported, according to "@tyngemergencyblog" on Twitter. One transport came from the seven-car accident, and the other from the second accident that is said to have followed.

The crashes happened during a brief downpour Monday afternoon.

A seven-car crash happened just after Boston Road near Exit 32 on the Littleton/Westford line, according to Twitter reports. One vehicle caught fire.

Another crash happened a quarter-mile down the highway, according to tweets from "@NEFireBuff, who also tweeted  that companies responding were reporting  "gridlock" conditions.

"The only thing missing out of the #Westford crash is a #FungWah bus," @NEFirebuff commented on Twitter.
