Electrocuted Squirrel Causes Lawn Fire on Concord Road

The following are excerpts from the Westford Fire Department log.

Nov. 5, 12:07 p.m. - A resident reported a large pile of material that they believed to be on fire on Elliot Road, but upon arrival, firefighters only found steam coming off the material, which was determined to be compost.

Nov. 5, 7:08 p.m. - Firefighters responded to a smell of gas at the Mystery Springs complex on Tadmuck Road.

It was determined that the smell was coming from a leaking boiler, which followed with an evacuation of the building where the boiler was located.

The problem was fixed later that evening.

Nov. 15, 7:34 p.m. - A customer at Cornerstone Square reported a fire, although it was determined that the fire was actually just the fire pit at Burton's Grill. No action was taken.

Nov. 17, 6:50 a.m. - A Concord Road homeowner called the Fire Department after a mysterious brush fire broke out on their lawn

After the fire was extinguished, it was found that the fire began thanks to a squirrel that chewed into some electrical wire.

The squirrel was electrocuted and caught on fire, falling onto the lawn.
