Driver Gets Warning From Police For Incident With Disabled Man In Crosswalk

The following information was supplied by the Westford Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Sept. 23, 12:02 p.m. – Four motor vehicles were involved in an accident at the intersection of Groton Road and Depot Street.

The operator of a vehicle on Groton Road heading east told officers on the scene that another vehicle was “pushed” into the rear end of his vehicle, also striking another vehicle.

Another driver, who was behind the vehicle heading east, was hit by the same vehicle but somehow did not make contact with the vehicle in front of him.

The driver of the vehicle that the first two drivers claimed hit them said she was hit by yet another vehicle in what was described as broken English.

That vehicle’s driver believes he may have fell asleep for a couple of seconds due to a long night of work.

The officer on the scene also reported that his command of the English language was poor.

A citation was issued to the fourth vehicle’s driver; a tow truck was needed for the first vehicle. There were no injuries.

Sept. 26, 3:32 p.m. – A customer at Cornerstone Square called police after a man with a bad leg pushed a shopping cart into his car.

The customer showed the officer a small dent on his Ford Taurus he estimated at $1000 to $1500 in damages.

However, the man with the bad leg said that he was in a crosswalk and could not move quickly out of the way due to his injury, not seeing the car until it was too late.

Although the customer believed he had the right of way and asked if the man with the bad leg would be charged for the damages, the customer instead was given a verbal warning for not stopping for the other man in the crosswalk.

Oct. 4, 12:25 p.m. – An individual on Russell’s Way was asked to remove signs from a utility pole after a call from an anonymous neighbor.

The sign advertised a yard sale at her house, but was in violation of the town’s sign bylaw.

The individual apologized and removed the sign.
