Abbot Mills Motorcycle Fire Extinguished Thanks To Nearby Landscaping Crew

The following are highlights from the Westford Fire Department Log for the week of Sept. 1 to 9, 2013.

 

 

Sept. 4, 3:54 p.m. – Westford firefighters were called to the scene for a car engine fire on Route 3 just north of Groton Road.

However, a state trooper on the scene was able to extinguish most of the fire prior to firefighters reaching the area.

Since the incident was just over the border of Chelmsford, Chelmsford firefighters were called in, with Westford fire officials handing over things to them after the fire was contained.

Sept. 5, 5:38 p.m. – Two units were dispatched to a motor vehicle fire on Nixon Road. The fire was contained quickly, with no injuries or significant property damage.

No information was provided on the cause of the fire.

Sept. 6, 8:57 a.m. – A motorcycle left running and unattended caught into flames at the Abbot Mills complex. Firefighters were called, although the fire was extinguished prior to their arrival thanks to a landscaping crew that was driving by and saw the blaze, lending a fire extinguisher in their truck.

Sept. 7, 12:21 a.m. – Residents on Birch Road reported seeing smoke nearby, which turned out to be a campfire. The fire was extinguished.

Sept. 7, 7:25 a.m. – A structure fire on Town Farm Road required five units from Westford as well as additional units from Groton and Littleton, with neighboring fire departments from Chelmsford, Tyngsboro and Ayer covering Westford’s fire stations while the blaze was being contained.

Heavy smoke arose from the ridge vent near the gamble ends of the house, originally emanating from a first floor bathroom.

No indication was given on what started the fire.
