Charlie Baker and Karyn Polito Support Raising Cap on Charter Schools

Last week, Charlie Baker and Karyn Polito, Republican candidates for Governor and Lieutenant Governor respectively, visited charter schools and called on Beacon Hill leaders to commit to expanding charter schools in failing districts in Massachusetts.

“I visited the Brooke Charter School in Boston, where I talked with parents and teachers about the incredible impact charter schools in Massachusetts have had on so many families,” said Charlie. “We talked about how important it is for Beacon Hill to support charter schools so more kids can get the education they deserve. The legislature has already stalled progress on expanding charter schools several times this year. We need to send a strong message that Beacon Hill needs to stand up for our kids.”

Karyn was in Lynn on Wednesday touring Kipp Academy and speaking with parents, students and teachers about the curriculum and the goals of a Kipp education. "Kipp Academy Lynn has a model program for motivating and encouraging children to learn," said Karyn. Their motto, "no shortcuts, no excuses" makes it clear that excellence is expected and hard work is required. By setting high standards, the students won't see their limitations, only their potential. We need more charter schools that challenge our students so that they can set high standards for themselves and compete in the world that will await them."
