Westford's Pecora A Nashoba Tech Nominee for Statewide Awards, Scholarships

WESTFORD — Nashoba Valley Technical High School has announced its nominees for statewide awards that recognize exemplary vocation-technical students, and a Westford girl is among them.

Shannon Pecora, daughter of Jim and Jeanie Pecora, is Nashoba Tech’s nominee for the Outstanding Vocational Technical Student Award, given by the Massachusetts Association of Vocational Administrators. The award is given to one student from each technical high school who represents the opportunity provided by a vocational-technical education.

Shannon is in the Carpentry/Cabinetmaking program at Nashoba Tech. With her No. 2 ranking in the Class of 2014, she is the salutatorian of the class and has maintained high honors throughout her career.

She has earned induction into the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society, and is a member of the Newspaper Club, and represented Nashoba Tech at the State Conference of SkillsUSA, a national, nonprofit organization serving high-school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations.

Shannon also serves as a Kick-Off Mentor for incoming freshmen. She qualified for the John & Abigail Adams Scholarship by virtue of her high MCAS scores.

Outside of school, Shannon is active in Girl Scouts and at her church, where she is the youth representative for the vestry. She also babysits and works for Nashoba Tech’s Community Education program.

She plans to attend college after graduation, and has been accepted into Gordon College, Bay Path College and Nyack College.
