What's Up With That Blue Tarp Canopy on the Common?

Welcome to our latest "You Asked, Patch Answers", where we answer the questions of Westford Patch readers.

Those driving onto the corner of Boston Road and Main Street yesterday might have noticed a blue tarp canopy over a part of the .

For those who don't know, this is the Grange Fountain, which is being sandblasted, primed and painted.

The fountain was a gift to the town of Westford from the Westford Grange and was originally used as a place where horses could drink water when it was first built in 1913.

This renovation project is being jointly sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department and the Common Restoration Project, with work being done by New England Restorations of Bridge Street in Graniteville.

Donations to offset the expense of the restoration are welcome and should be directed to Common Restoration Project, PO Box 411 Westford, Massachusetts 01886.

Huh. Any idea if they're going to fix it so water runs and it could be used for dogs? I seem to remember there being a small "bowl" at the bottom, I assume for dogs?

Maybe this can be the start of an 'Occupy Westford' movement against the Fat Cats in corporate America who drink the cream off the system while the rest of us work our fingers to the bone for the scraps the 1% toss aside. I think the center would be more interesting with an occupy group camping out in tents there reminding us all about grass roots democracy

Derek -- I doubt it, but you could always pitch that to Parks and Rec. Jay Ross -- Acton had an occupy protest, but I think it was there for like a day. Acton Patch had a story on it.
