Food Day Comes to Westford's Schools and the Fat Moon Farm

It’s not always easy to eat healthy, but a new holiday of sorts coming this Thursday aims to address that problem, if only for one day.

Organizers of the third annual Food Day initiative have scheduled over 4,000 events in all 50 states based around highlighting problems in the food supply, celebrating solutions in getting more sustainable and healthy food solutions according to the non-profit Center for Science in the Public Interest, which provides national coordination for the initiative.

Food Day founder Michael Jacobson will be spending Food Day in Massachusetts to participate in events at Babson College as well as participating in a forum organized by the U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance.

He hopes the initiative can help shine a light on issues such as environmental degradation, obesity and unfair treatment of those in the food industry as well as showcasing solutions to those challenges.

“Our food system is fraught with problems,” said Jacobson. “On Food Day, we hope to inspire Americans to make changes for the better in their own diets.”

In Westford, all public schools will celebrate Food Day with meals that completely eliminate all processed foods, and the Fat Moon Farm will be holding a Paint & Nibble, a sustainable and healthy meal for local elderly residents, and an organic food stand.
