Author Program with Steve Puleo:  “Early in the afternoon of May 22, 1856, ardent pro-slavery Congressman~Preston S. Brooks of South Carolina strode into the United States Senate~Chamber in Washington, D.C. and began beating renowned anti-slavery~Senator Charles Sumner with a gold-topped walking cane.”  Steve Puleo explores this historical event that precipitated the start of the Civil War in his new book, “The Caning”.  Mr. Puleo will take us back to this tumultuous time and the events leading up to the “War Between the States.” Ages 10 and up. Please register for this free program in the Information Services Department. Registration begins on February 11th.
