Papa Gino's New England's Best Pizza, Westford's too!

Papa Gino's, the Best Pizza in Westford! Large Cheese, extra sauce, well done.

I love the Pizza tournament! Almost as much as Papa Gino's!!!

Papa Gino's makes a classic thin crust pizza like none other in Westford.  The sauce is robust and has just the right sweet tomato zing!  The 3 cheese blend (with a dash of oregano) is the perfect savory compliment to top your pizzas.  The fresh dough made daily results in a chewy yet crunchy crust that carries all the special ingredients (and favorite toppings) to thier final destination: your belly!  I am getting my weekly Papa Gino's craving just writing this blog!

Papa Gino's also offers a rewards card program!  Loyal customers are given discounts for repeat business.  Papa Gino's staff is fast, friendly and informed.  Papa Gino's offers a variety of other great food items like subs (the BEST steak and cheese sub, that should be the next tourny Andy!), pasta dishes, burgers, salads and wings!  Papa Gino's also has a kid's menu!  Lastly and maybe the most clutch detail about Papa Gino's, you can order their delicious pizza by the slice!

I know the Pizza tournament is about pizza but I had to throw in a few good reasons why you should not only vote for Papa Gino's as Westford's best pizza but why you should visit them too...frequently!  Do both today!

But this Battle of the Pizzas is ONLY about those in Westford so bringing in all these other references is totally irrelevant. I say this being neither for OR against Papa Gino's.
Wicked BBQ November 08, 2012 at 03:44 PM
Katie....understood that the "Battle of the Pizzas" is about Westford only....I think what is creating this backlash against DJW is his title statement of "Papa Gino's New England's Best Pizza".
katie November 08, 2012 at 03:45 PM
Isn't that what any blog post in support of a favorite pizza place would sound like, an advertisement? If DJW feels like a kids menu deserves an exclamation point, it's probably because they have kids and this is a huge benefit to their favorite pizza place compared to the others that may not offer this. I don't understand how any of these other references are relevant to a WESTFORD pizza competition. These places are not in Westford, why even bring them up? And to the point of guessing someone is under 21, does that make their opinion invalid? Shouldn't you want a young mind to be voicing their opinions too? Young people are valid citizens and residents of Westford as well. To all those against DJW's opinion of Papa Gino's, could you link me to the blog post you wrote about your favorite Westford pizza place? I can't seem to find them...
katie November 08, 2012 at 04:20 PM
Requesting a "foundational database" for someone's OPINION? "Constructive criticism of the pizzerias is allowed, but any negative comment directed at the opinions of other users is strictly prohibited. This is a friendly contest, and we want to make sure everyone's views are welcome." I don't know, seems as though you're all smashing an opinion rather than having one of your own. If you don't like any of the pizza in Westford, then what's the point in participating? At the end of the day, I'm sure you have all had pizza from in town and I'm sure if it's Friday night and you've got to choose an in town option, you have your preference, so why not share that instead of bringing in places that are not relevant to Westford? I get it, you don't like that he said it was best in New England, but that's his opinion, why get hung up on it? I'm not a pizza professional, I barely like it, but I have an opinion and a preference for the pizza places that are here in town. If the next pizza battle is about places in Massachusetts, expand there. If beyond that, we discuss New England, great. Contribute to the contest instead of bashing an opinion, what's your favorite Westford pizza place?
katie November 08, 2012 at 04:23 PM
It has everything to do with the pizza competition... Read the pizza competition. It encourages people to post about their favorite pizza place in town.
DJ November 08, 2012 at 04:41 PM
Wicked et al this isn't a pissing contest. 1st of all the blog title is derived from...wait for it...PG's actual slogan! And the blog was inspired by the Patch's Pizza tournament and to score 50 more points for my favorite WESTFORD pizza, PG (I assume everyone realized this?). If there were a burger tournament, and my blog was 'McD's, I'm lovin' it in the US and Westford too' I think you would get that right? Geez Louise. My blog title includes 'Westford' not just NE and more importantly it begins: I love the pizza tournament. Besides all the name dropping and trivia questins being obnoxious, they are ABSOLUTELY irrelevant to what pizza in Westford is the best. In Westford.
Mike November 08, 2012 at 04:42 PM
Katie, I voted in the contest, which, as you point out, is limited to "Westford's Best Pizza." This isn't the contest. This is someone posting their opinion based on a laughable lack of knowledge. Saying that Papa Gino's is "New England's Best Pizza" is ridiculous on its face and just shows that the poster is either: a) Sadly uninformed about the quality of pizza, or b) A paid (or unpaid) shill for the company. I'm guessing both.
Mike November 08, 2012 at 04:43 PM
DJ Wilson, what's your connection to Papa Gino's?
katie November 08, 2012 at 04:45 PM
Mike, this is a component of the contest. Writing a blog in support of your favorite pizza place for additional points awarded to that pizza place. Do you honestly think DJW is just randomly writing a blog about pizza? The first five words of the post are "I love the Pizza tournament"
Andrew Sylvia (Editor) November 08, 2012 at 04:46 PM
Hi folks, if you don't like Papa Gino's, write your own blog in support of your choice. Right now, Papa Gino's is way ahead in the race for the first seed in the tournament.
DJ November 08, 2012 at 04:53 PM
Mmm, I worked there when I was 17? That was about 20 years ago though. I am not going to write about pizza parlors outside of Westford because that was never the point (even though I have written, now 3 times Regina is my favorite..and I am afraid to say all time or in MA or in NE or in the World or whatever as it will possibly spark another stoning). Sorry Mike y PG haters.
DJ November 08, 2012 at 04:56 PM
Thanks Andy!
Mike November 08, 2012 at 04:58 PM
Creed sold more albums in the US than Jimi Hendrix, does that popularity make Creed better than Jimi? :) Popularity =/= quality.
Mike November 08, 2012 at 05:02 PM
OK, so DJ Wilson is shilling for Papa Gino's in the contest. I get that. This, however, isn;t the contest. He stated an opinion -- an amazingly ludicrous one -- and these comments are simply educating DJ Wilson about his lack of a basis of comparison.
DJ November 08, 2012 at 05:13 PM
More people are voting for PG as there favorite Westford Pizza, therefore it makes PG Westford's favorite PIzza. Not sure about the Cread vs Jimi comment, I never mentioned popularity = good pizza, one of your fellow PG haters did. I merely said PG had the most votes. To be clear, NE's Best Pizza is PG slogan. I thought readers would quickly recognize the slogan. I added Westford in the title because of the Pizza Tournament. The 1st line in my blog was I love the pizza tournament. The WTF = Westford comment is offensive too.
Andrew Sylvia (Editor) November 08, 2012 at 05:14 PM
Wicked BBQ, This contest isn't for the best pizza in the U.S., it's for the best pizza in Westford. If you want to disagree with DJW here, that's okay. Just to clarify for you and everybody, my only concern on the contest article itself was the fear that someone would come in and say "you're stupid for thinking that and this contest is stupid and blah blah blah" and then nobody would participate. Believe it or not, we've had that on other contests before. That's the opposite of my goal here. I hope folks have opinions, but I want to make sure everybody's comfortable enough here to have their own opinions.
katie November 08, 2012 at 05:15 PM
For one thing, I wouldn't question that because that is your opinion and this is America, you are free to have any opinion you like and I have no business questioning your opinion. Another thing, DJW has already stated that the basis of his blog title comes from the Papa Gino's slogan putting everyone's argument against him at a wash. Even if he thinks it's the greatest pizza in New England, that is his opinion. But, it sounds like he was playing at the marketing of Papa Gino's, he clearly knows his PG and shouldn't be bashed for that either way.
Andrew Sylvia (Editor) November 08, 2012 at 05:17 PM
I didn't see that comment, I'll delete it now. Obscenity isn't acceptable under the terms of use, even abbreviated obscenity.
Mike November 08, 2012 at 05:34 PM
I love the Pizza tournament! Almost as much as DiGiornos!!! DiGiornos makes a classic thin crust pizza like none other in Westford. The sauce is robust and has just the right sweet tomato zing! The 3 cheese blend (with a dash of oregano) is the perfect savory compliment to top your pizzas. The freshly frozen dough stocked daily results in a chewy yet crunchy crust that carries all the special ingredients (and favorite toppings) to thier final destination: your belly! I am getting my weekly DiGiornos craving just writing this blog! DiGiornos doesn't offer a rewards card program! But thatz okay! Loyal customers are given discounts for repeat business with coupons in weekyl newspapers. I've never met them but DiGiornos staff is fast, friendly and informed. DiGiornos doesn't offer a variety of other food items like subs because they're all about the pizza, man! DiGiornos also has a kid's menu! (Well, not really, but you can cut up the slices seriously small, yo!) Lastly and maybe the most clutch detail about Papa Gino's, you can get their delicious pizza at Market Basket! I know the Pizza tournament is about pizza but I had to throw in a few good reasons why you should not only vote for DiGiornos as Westford's best pizza but why you should visit them too...frequently! Do both today!
Gerard November 08, 2012 at 05:37 PM
First of all, there was no obscenity there, that acronym is used many times as an abbreviation for Westford. It was not meant to be an obscenity in any way.
Andrew Sylvia (Editor) November 08, 2012 at 05:39 PM
Hi Gerard, I've never heard that used as an acronym for Westford before, but you're welcome to put your comment up again if you clarify what you just said. For many folks, that acronym signifies an obscenity (at least the "F" part does). Sorry man, that's the rules.
katie November 08, 2012 at 05:55 PM
Isn't this, you know, plagiarism?
Mike November 08, 2012 at 06:08 PM
It's actually a parody. Just demonstrates how easily one can throw together a string of nouns and adjectives, sprinkled with a dash of verb, to create something that doesn't really say much. Your Silver Palate post is fairly ripe for that, too.
katie November 08, 2012 at 06:14 PM
Since you posted it as your own separate "blog" in addition to this comment, is without question plagiarism, you changed words but kept sentence structure. I think you learn that in roughly middle school? For all the spice you've added on this post and mine, you don't seem to have much actual opinion of your own. Why don't you try and be original and post something constructive?
DJ November 08, 2012 at 06:17 PM
This is too much. So I say, Pizza Party at PG this Friday, I am buying!
Mike November 08, 2012 at 06:21 PM
Meh. I don't write for free.
DJ November 08, 2012 at 06:44 PM
Great post Wicked. I will refer back to your (and others) parlor mentions if ever traveling to those areas. WTF around town? Really, I am curious where? haha I think I have seen WFD or WSD but never WTF, and in Westford? WTF wouldn't last a minute haha
Andrew Sylvia (Editor) November 08, 2012 at 07:03 PM
I've seen WST and WES as well. I guess we don't have to worry too much about this unless we build an airport in town...

@ Wicked and Gerard: As lovers of decent pizza, you might be interested in this documentary about the quest for the ultimate pizza. Below is the text of an email from Jeff Varasano, the guy behind the pizza rankings site. He started out as a pizza loving tech guy whose obsession for the perfect slice ended up with his own pizza restaurant in Atlanta. I'd put it above Santarpios, Reginas and maybe even Modern. Enjoy! : "Hello! Apologies if you received this already. I was approached by a film crew to produce an online documentary series as somewhat of an update to my recipe. http://www.youtube.com/arcconyc They asked me to spread the word. The documentary series should delve into the recipe I created in order to get "New York Elite," style pizza in your own home oven, as well as give you a little more insight about me, my pizza, and my pizzeria. I'm pretty excited for this! Please subscribe, like, comment and spread the word to help make the documentary series a success! I'll also try to post updates to my twitter. So by all means, feel free to follow me there as well! Thank you so much!"

This is one of my favorite food documentaries, off subject but none the less mouthwatering http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=da3Ck_GgMYw
